Jelle is a Dutch Pro BMX rider. He started racing at a very young age when he would cycle around the block as a two-year-old on his two wheels. Bikes are part of the culture in Jelle’s neighborhood so it was a natural sport for him.
When he was a bit older, he started paying the local track a visit and he was given his first BMX bike by his mother’s aunt. He was smitten with it and later that same year (1995) he competed in his very first district race in Wijchen. His family cheered him on from the side, also developing a liking to the sport.
It was only getting better when his father bought him a real 20inch BMX bike for his fifth birthday, and Jelle’s passion for sport grew even more. He went on to compete in the category seven years and younger and managed to secure the national 5th place. When he turned six years old, he came 1st nationally and even won his very first international race, the European Championship – a huge accomplishment for a six-year-old boy. He kept winning national international titles and turned Pro when he was 18 years old.
His dream has always been to compete in the Olympic Games and now it has become a reality. Since 2009 he has also been racing in the Elite Men category and made his mark when he ranked 9th overall.
