The front tire was still wedged in a rut and I started to go over the handlebars.

I was at Race the Ranch in Kamloops BC for a downhill mountain bike race last June. The course was fast with the top section being technical and tricky. I had done numerous practice laps the day before and was pretty confident with my lines. On the morning of the race I took a few more practice runs to check that the course hadn’t changed too much. Unfortunately it had, and I came into the “Carnage” corner way too fast. In an attempt to slow down, I took my feet off the pedals. As I did that I managed to aim myself right for a 5ft-6ft cliff.
The front tire was still wedged in a rut and I started to go over the handlebars. My bike pushed on my legs forcing me to keep rolling down the hill and head first into the dirt. As I landed, I felt my feet coming over my head AGAIN and I did another roll. I immediately stood up to try to get out of the way as more people were right behind me. As soon as I did that the medical aids were right there and they told me to sit down and to not move. Fortunately I was completely fine aside from some scrapes and a stiff neck the next day. Some of the spectators and the medics said that I would’ve been in worse condition if I hadn’t had my Leatt neck brace on. I’m so thankful it did its job and I managed to ride down the course and even race a few hours later.
