I should have been dead! But I could tell my collar was busted
I went off the lip two inches too far to the left and missed the landing by about 3 feet
I went to Interbike in Las Vegas in September of 2014 , and on the way back my friends and I decided to stop at the old Red Bull Rampage site. There is a jump there called the Bender Sender, and I’ve wanted to hit it for 3 years now. I’ve seen the pro’s hit it since I was 15 (I’m 22 now). It’s a good 40 feet down and about 40 out I would say. Going there, I knew I was going to hit it. I told my buddy, so when we showed up, we went up and scoped it out. I was feeling it. We had to reshape the lip and landing from a recent rainstorm, but we got it good to go. So, I manned up and hit it! I went off the lip two inches too far to the left and missed the landing by about 3 feet… Landing in the soft sagebrush habitat threw me right over the bars. I landed, then tumbled about 30 feet. I layed there for a second, but then quickly stood up and walked around. I couldn’t believe it! I should have been dead! But I could tell my collar was busted. Thankfully it was only that. So now, I’m sitting here on the couch replaying it over and over in my mind how close I was. But thanks to you guys, I can still think haha. I would undoubtedly have a broken back if I wasn’t wearing it. The brace is pretty dinged up now, and I ripped my Leatt shirt I was wearing, but my wife and I are stoked that that was it! I will never go without a neck brace after this experience for sure. Thanks Leatt!
